This piece aligns the creation story with current scientific understanding. It consists of 6, 36” x 60” panels. piece speaks to section of the creation story. Below each panel is a smaller oval painting around 14” x 10” depicting a phase of cell devision. I reference both the Phoenician and biblical versions. There are many creation stories.

Old Testament: In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

Phoenician Creation story : 2250 BC Aether - [PHILO BYBLIUS] 'The first principle of the universe he supposes to have been air dark with cloud and wind, or rather a blast of cloudy air, and a turbid chaos dark as Erebus; and these were boundless and for long ages had no limit.

2225 BC Wind, Desire : But when the wind, says he, became enamored of its own parents, and a mixture took place, that connexion was called Desire. This was the beginning of the creation of all things : but the wind itself had no knowledge of its own creation. From its connexion Mot was produced, which some say is mud, and others a putrescence of watery compound; and out of this came every germ of creation, and the generation of the universe.

Science says life started in the deep waters of the earth

ONE / Asexual

Old Testament: “So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” ( I’m contending this translation to mean a creation of intelligent life (human kind) as asexual, “male and female.” He later creates Adam out of mud and only when woman is made from his rib does humanity become sexual.

Phoenician Creation story : 2200 BC Mot : There were certain animals which had no sensation, and out of them grew intelligent animals, and were called "Zophasemin," that is "observers of heaven"; and they were formed like the shape of an egg. Also Mot burst forth into light, and sun, and moon, and stars, and the great constellations.'

Old Testament: then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being. (“man” in this sentence means the human. Woman is not made yet and life is asexual, or hermaphrodidic

Phoenician Creation story : 'And when the air burst into light, both the sea and the land became heated, and thence arose winds and clouds, and very great downpours and floods of the waters of heaven. So after they were separated, and removed from their proper place because of the sun's heat, and all met together again in the air dashing together one against another, thunderings and lightnings were produced, and at the rattle of the thunder the intelligent animals already described woke up, and were scared at the sound, and began to move both on land and sea, male and female.'

Science says the first life were asexual simple animals like an amoeba “shaped like an egg”
Science describes the composition of the body as a 70% water 30% carbon / mud / dust

Old Testament: So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the *man, and he slept; then *he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, "This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one shall be called Woman, for out of Man this one was taken." Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked, and were not ashamed. ( The words “man” and “
he” are problematic because it assumes Adam has a sex before sex exists. )

I think the creation story writers were wiser and knew more than we think. If we assume Adam is both male and female, an asexual animal. Then to make that asexual organism a male and create a female you would need to take one chromosome / rib from the whole and give the other one an extra chromosome /rib. I would assume misogyny played a role in how pronouns and were used in the translation.
