Astonishing The Gods

Gouache & Pencil On Paper
18” x 24”

The sun travels through space drawing the planets in its wake. I imagine our solar system as an animal of sorts swimming through space... each planet a vital organ of its body.

Astonishing The Gods

(sketch of painting detail)
The sun ☀️ travels through the universe like a comet, the planets follow in rotation. In my larger composition this child’s ship rides the braided wake of the spinning solar system inside the body of a whale. Does the solar system have skin we can’t see? Does the sun know where it’s going? #fatatoart

Koi

Koi

oil on panel, 12”x24”

I have been studying the movements of water and koi are the best teachers. Water is the hardest element on earth and what shapes everything on the planet. There is more strength in the subtle movements of water than in any material on earth.

Artemis

(a work in progress)

A Greek myth painted many times by many artists, it tells the story of the hunter Actaeon as young man coming of age hunting the buck with his hounds. Accidentally, he stumbles upon Artemis and her maidens bathing in the moonlight. Furious, Artemis warns him not to speak another word or she'll turn him into a stag. He calls to his hounds and seals his fate. Artemis turns him into a stag the hunter becomes the hunted; and his raging hounds, struck with a 'wolf's frenzy' , tear him apart as they would a stag." Some say the story illustrates a man's realization of the feminine / subtile powers in nature. Upon witnessing this power he gains empathy, and understands relativity, his crude masculine devices are turned against him, his flesh is torn from his bones, the young man is dead.

My version is being made in honor of the feminists of our generation who, through their bravery are transforming myself and our world for the better. Artemis and her bathers are commonly depicted as young white and shy. They are usually covering up their nudity and cowering from Acteon. My composition show's women from a variety of age groups and nationalities unafraid, not concerned by their nudity and ready to face their attacker.

The Lady Giraffe

3' x 5' oil on canvas

She asks if you understand that you are not separate from nature. With foot in the water, body on the earth and head in the sky she wants you to know that we share the same basic needs as all life. With babe in her belly and a giraffe skull by her side she lives between the womb and the grave like all animals.

The Blind Kings

ink on paper
9 1/4"x16 1/2

A composition for an oil painting this piece predicts the end of the struggle for brutal control of the earth and beginning of a new enlightened age. Two blind kings carried by slaves ned for control have tied themselves to a burning stake. Each holding one end of the rope they could just let go but choose to burn instead.
